THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW ABOUT “AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR”
To celebrate the in-home release of “Avengers: Infinity War,” we’ve uncovered secrets from the making of the epic Super Hero saga. Thanos fans can snap up the galaxy-shattering adventure when the mighty new Marvel Studios movie is released into homes on Digital, Blu-ray and 4K UHD ™ August 14. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will never be the same again …
AN UNEXPECTED ENDING FOR A NUMBER OF CHARACTERS WAS ALWAYS PLANNED
At the very beginning of the creative process, the filmmakers knew that “Avengers: Infinity War” was going to conclude the story of a number of key characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “What we love about the notion of ‘Infinity War’ is that it gave us an opportunity to fulfill the promise of all the movies that had come before,” explains Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige. “We knew it was time to see certain characters live up to their potential and rise to meet whatever challenges they faced, but we also knew it was time to bring some of those stories to a conclusion; to an end. Every great story has an ending. That doesn’t mean there won’t be new beginnings and that doesn’t mean there won’t be further adventures of many of the characters involved—but bringing some of those characters to surprising conclusions was one of the things we really wanted to do in ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’”
THERE’S DELETED SCENES FROM THE GUARDIANS ACTION TO UNCOVER
When the in-home edition of “Avengers: Infinity War” is finally released, Marvel fans can expect to uncover a number of never-before-seen deleted and extended scenes. “In many of our movies, there are a number of awesome scenes that don’t make the cut,” admits Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige. “The deleted scenes for ‘Infinity War’ are amazing. In particular, there are a couple of deleted scenes with the Guardians called “The Guardians Get Their Groove Back” that we really loved. The scenes played really well when we screened early versions of the movie—but they ultimately took away from the overall story and the flow of the movie. It’s depressing when you realize you’ve shot something really cool and you think that no one’s ever going to see it, but then you remember you have the option to add it to the in-home window.”
THERE WAS A LOT OF IMPROVISATION ON THE SET OF “AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR”
Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely spent months honing the scripts of “Avengers: Infinity War” and its untitled sequel, but there was always time for the actors to play around with their lines on the blockbusting Marvel set. “The script was never fully locked,” explains Stephen McFeely. “It was always a little fluid, because some of the actors love to improvise. Certain actors are more willing to play around the edges, which is always fun to watch. In certain scenes that involved green screens, we could say, ‘Well, we can pretty much make anything behind you, so do whatever you want.’” Which of the actors improvised the most? “Lots of them,” admits Christopher Markus.
THE DIRECTORS WERE EXCITED FOR AUDIENCES TO SEE THANOS IN ACTION
When it comes to the epic characters of “Avengers: Infinity War,” the movie’s directors were incredibly eager for audiences to finally see Thanos in action. “Thanos is a very unique creation,” enthuses Joe Russo. “We’re really proud of the character and we couldn’t wait for the fans to see him. I don’t think anyone has ever seen a CG character like this before. The technology that was used to capture [Josh] Brolin’s performance and translate it to Thanos is very new. We were excited for audiences to see a really complex performance from this central character of the film.”
PETER DINKLAGE WAS A DREAM CASTING FOR THE MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE
When “Avengers: Infinity War” went into production, few people knew about the iconic Marvel character that Peter Dinklage had secretly signed up to play. “We were thrilled when Peter Dinklage joined the cast as Eitri,” enthuses Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige. “It was a dream casting to have somebody of this caliber joining this already immense ensemble. Eitri has a very important part in the mythology; in that he and the race of people on Nidavellir are the people who forged Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. As we saw in “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor doesn’t have his hammer anymore. He lost it, so he has a goal to go to Nidavellir and get a new weapon that might be the key to defeating Thanos. Even though the character has been called ‘Eitri the dwarf’ in the comics, it’s fun when you realize he’s 20-foot tall. There’s something incredible about seeing a 20-foot tall Peter Dinklage. It’s awesome.”
